My boyfriend and I did the “Automatic Drawing” together for this week’s art experience and we had a lot fun since it was the first time we worked on something together like that! He does not have an artistic bone in his body so it was a sight to see him drawing and we had a lot of laughs. He was having a blast doing whatever he wanted without having to be graded, while I was freaking out a little bit at the chaos of lines we were making. We would stop every now and then to see the progress and cringe at how tangled it was, since we both had completely differing ideas of how we wanted it to turn out.
In the end, I decided to take charge to color in some of the shapes we formed in hopes of fixing it. We used COPIC sketch markers for both the initial drawing of the lines and the colored details. The color scheme was blue-grey since he and I were both wearing those colors and I thought it would make sense to make the art we made look like us too. We were both pretty impressed by how well it turned out after I colored it in a little bit. The outside was a lot more geometric and structured, while the inside was a mess of rounder shapes. In a way it ended up looking like a flower – a sharp angled one on the outside and a softer but wilder one on the inside.
